Merlene OTTEY SLO
I wanted to have a better race, but I did not have enough time to prepare well for these championships. I am challenging myself and until I do not enjoy to train and race I will continue. It is an amazing feeling to compete as the only one here who also competed at first championships in Helsinki. The sport changed since then, there is lot more money into it. But I must say the organisation of the event back in 1983 was great. We will see whether I will qualify on time basis, but my time was slow.
Chandra STURRUP BAH
She would only like to give a statement after the next round.
Kim GEVAERT BEL
I ran a season's best, a good way to start the competition.
Sally MCLELLAN AUS
I didn't expect a PB, especially in the heats. The field is really tough so I just was going for one round after the other. I felt good coming out of the blocks. Then I thought I'd have a look at what's going on around. As I got to the end, I still felt really good, so I just kept going.
Christine ARRON FRA
I had a clean race. Good reaction time and followed on by a good first half. I then looked at the others and could slow down in the end. My aim today is to qualify and save energy for the next rounds. There's no purpose to give it all now. I prefer to focus on technique and specially on my start.
Mechelle LEWIS USA
I just recently got the news that I will run here because Allyson Felix dropped out. So I took the opportunity, although I was not counting on it too much. And it felt great. Fast and relaxed run, I am looking forward to the next round.
Lilly PINE KIR
It was only my second time ever I run on a synthetic track. Because in Kiribati we have only dirt tracks. I am running since 2002 but only three days a week. Athletics is the biggest sport in our small country, because we have it already in elementary school. People will recognise when I return home that I competed at World Championships. My federation told me some 2 months ago that I will go and so I trained little bit more and it paid off as went under 14 seconds. Next aim is under 13 seconds.
Torri EDWARDS USA
I didn't want to run that fast but she [Osayomi] pushed me a little bit. I felt easy though. I feel pretty confident, I've been preparing for this all season. I heard the track is fast, now I know it, but we will see how fast in the finals.
