Flash Interviews: Long Jump women qualification summary

Tatyana LEBEDEVA RUS
Today it was not about who is the best, but to qualify. I did it with my first jump and that was exactly what I wanted. I'm doing here two events so needed to save my energy. The surface is a little bit softer, but I still expect a great battle in finals and that all medallists will jump over 7 metres. I'm well prepared, so I want to be in that group.

I feel very well in this moment and am very satisfied with my qualification which was only five centimetres to my personal best. Although, I have to admit that this morning, I was not feeling as good as I could and should have felt. In the finals I will have to do my first three jumps with a lot of precaution. My aim is to improve my personal best and to get a medal and usually I jump better in the afternoon than in the morning - so it should work. I am not nervous. My favorite for the gold medal is the athlete who was the most consistent this year which is Kolchanova.

I didn't feel my leg. I have the speed but there's something missing at take-off. I couldn't do enough specific training and even though the shape is here, it's not enough to be in the top in such competition. I'm someone who prefers to analyze and learn from disappointing experience rather than get into frustration as frustration leads nowhere. Now I'll have to care about my problem and see if I shall get surgery to clean my knee. Maybe, I shouldn't have come to Osaka at all.
