Gold - Kenenisa BEKELE, ETH
Winning the World Championships is fantastic for me. At the end of a race, if you have good speed, you can win. With three laps left, I was tired, but after some minutes, my body started to recover a bit. When the other guy took the lead, I encouraged Sileshi to go after him. If I could have, I would have. After I recovered a bit, I used everything I had to come back, and when I caught Sileshi, of course, I had to pass him.
It's possible I will attempt the world record in Brussels after this, but it will be very tough to run twice in less than two weeks, along with all this traveling. But I will probably try.
Silver - Sileshi SIHINE, ETH
(On Zeresenay Tadesse leading for so long.) I knew the laps were going to be run very fast, but we weren't worried.
My stomach was hurting from about the tenth lap, and I tried my best, but in the end, Kenenisa was better than me, and he beat me. We are very happy with the team's results.
Bronze - Martin Irungu MATHATHI, KEN
The race was nice. Due to the fact I live in Japan, I had many fans cheering up for me. The last 400m were very hard. I don't have it in the sprint. But what is satisfying is that in the past few years, I used to be dropped far earlier. I think the Ethiopians are not what they used to be. In the last lap, they are too strong, but if you keep chasing them in the middle, something could be done. I know, as time goes by, I'll be ahead of them in the future. They are beatable. If not by me, by another Kenyan or someone else. As for me, I'll need to work particularly the last 3000m from now on.
4th place - Zeresenay TADESSE, ERI
(On why he led for many laps.) If there are too many running together, it's a problem at the finish. But I am happy, I am fourth. In Asmara, where I trained, it's rainy and muddy, and not good for training, so I am happy with my results.
(On whether he thought he could catch up after being passed.) It was in the final lap. It's impossible.
