Flash Interviews: Long Jump men qualification summary

Dwight PHILLIPS USA
It felt easy. I had to slow down a lot. Now I need to get mentally prepared for tommorrow night. Technically I was satisfied, track is fast. I know I can achieve some great marks here. The goal is to win the third gold.

James BECKFORD JAM
I was just playing around to see how all goes. So still something is left for the finals. I'm a speed jumper so this track is great for me. This year is so far one of my best since 1996 when I got Olympic medal. It is mainly because I was working la ot at my speed. I train in Orlando, Florida and while being in Europe, in Germany. I think something around 8.30 will be enough for the podium.

Irving SALADINO PAN
I am in a very good shape. I wanted to jump the 8.15 metres - but anyway, most important thing is that I made the qualification. I am ready for tomorrow and I believe in myself. I feel relaxed and easy, not nervous at all, only calm. I hope to find the jump tomorrow that will bring me to the podium.

Andrew HOWE ITA
At the beginning, I was a little nervous. But now I feel pretty confident, really good. I have been preparing myself the whole year to jump here at the world championships. It is really hard to jump 8,17 metres in the morning. My first jump was a fault, so I made small changes in my run-up. As far as my competitors are concerned, we are all at the same level. I guess, that Saladino and Phillips are likely to be on the podium. Yes, it feels kind of strange to have our qualification together with the javelin throwers, but this time, we are safe!

Godfrey Khotso MOKOENA RSA
The qualification went really well for me. Now I feel very comfortable. I had to fix my run-up, my coach advised me to go a little bit backwards and then I jumped 8.28 metres. These are my second world championships and I am much calmer now. Since 2005, I became a pro. I focus on myself and I think that the gold medal is possible for me. Anything can happen in the final!
