Paul BURGESS AUS
I can't explain what happened. I just wasn't good enough today.
Danny ECKER GER
At my first jump, there was head wind. For the rest of the qualification it was windless. I hope the conditions, especially the wind will be the same in the final as today. My first jump was not too good, but clearing the 5.70 metres felt fantastic! My right hand is doing quite well, it is not 100%, but 'reasonable'. I want to attack in the final and jump 5,90 metres. Bjorn Otto and I have showed before coming here to Osaka that we are able to jump high. We will be in the fight for the medals. These are my fourth world championships, I feel relaxed, I am more focused now and mature.

It was all right, I pole vaulted for first time since Monte Carlo Grand Prix Meet so I must be satisfied. We had little bit of wind, but otherwise the conditions were good. Runway is good, sometimes in humid weather it is difficult to have your grip dry. It is always tricky out there in our event, some of the pole vaulters had problems. I think something around 5.85 will make the podium.

To qualify is a difficult step and I didn't get any pleasure from today's event. Hopefully, I'll enjoy more the final. With a few eliminations like Burgess or Sawano, it will be probably more open than what I expected. Last week with my coach we guessed that 5.85 would give a medal.
Bjoern OTTO GER
You ask me about the final? Every one of us twelve can become world champion! Let us see how things will roll for me. At 5.55 I was surprised that my run-up did not work so well. But it improved at 5.70. Until the final, I will see my physio, drink a lot and try not to move too much. My body needs to recover from the heat.
Daichi SAWANO JPN
At 5.55 the pole slipped from my hands. During my second try my calf muscle started to stiff. Then I was forced to skip the third attempt. When I tried 5.65 in the last six steps once again I felt the calf. When I jumped my whole body get really stiffed. My condition was good, I was comfortable and calm for first time in such a big competition. Honestly, I do not have any explanation why this happened to my leg and body.
